Decolonial Pluriversality and the Foundations of Modern Power
Reading discussion
6 April 2026, 18:30 CET, via Zoom
Join South/South Movement for a collective reading and discussion of Marcos S. Scauso’s article “Decolonial Pluriversality: Unveiling Genocide, Epistemicide, and Historicide in the Foundations of the United States”.
The article develops a decolonial methodology of pluriversality to critically examine the colonial legacies embedded in the birth and institutional structures of the United States. Moving beyond conventional frameworks in international relations, Scauso foregrounds the relational basis of pluriversal thought and its implications for global politics.
Through an analysis of epistemic politics, including claims to knowledge, desires for domination, and multiple forms of violence, the article traces how epistemic, ontological, and temporal logics sustain epistemicide, genocide, and historicide. These processes are examined as ongoing patterns institutionalized into the foundations of the empire and reproduced through contemporary borders, hierarchies, and global orders.
This reading group will explore pluriversality as a political and epistemic alternative to universalism through the coexistence of multiple worlds, histories, and truths. Please join us as we reflect on how these dynamics resonate in our current moment in different sites where knowledge, history, and survival remain deeply contested.
Participants are encouraged to read in advance, though prior reading is not required. All are welcome to join, listen, and contribute.
Reading materials will be shared with participants after registration.
